Testing for Vitamin C in Foreign tomatoes

Today we repeated the same procedure for Vitamin C on foreign tomatoes. We kept the procedure the same as it was on Tuesday, however, we made one modification.

We did not peel the tomatoes ourselves since it was very difficult to do so. We instead allowed this to be done by the electronic juicer, which removes the peel during the juicing process.

Once the juice was obained and passed through a cheesecloth, we titrated 25mL of it against iodine solution using starch indicator.

The amount of iodine solution used to reach endpoint in tomato juice was much less than that used to reach end point in the orange juice. This indicates that tomatoes have less Vitamin C than orange juice.
