We are a group of three students - Amy, Diane and Denise - from Maria Regina Girls' Secondary School in Mosta. We are participating in the NSTF Science Expo 2015. Our aim in this project is to investigate and compare the nutritional content in Maltese and foreign fruit and vegetables. A comparison of the nutritional value of local and foreign fruits and vegetables
Project Description
It is often said that local produce tastes better than foreign produce. But is this true or is it simply a patriotic affirmation by the Maltese people? Are Maltese fruits and vegetables tastier and more nutritious than foreign vegetables? Or is this just a perception? The aim of this research is to use a series of qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests to test for substances such as salt, vitamin C, sugars and water content in 3-5 fruits/vegetables from local and foreign origin and make comparisons with regards to their taste and nutritional value.
